A school admission message and JAMB CAPS can disagree while records are still being processed. Treat the difference as something to resolve before assuming both systems have confirmed the same offer.
Compare the exact records
Open the school portal yourself and save the offer or status page. Then open your own JAMB profile and record the examination year, registration number, institution and course shown. A mismatch in the year or candidate number can make an ordinary login mistake look like an admission problem.
Check your O’Level record and any transfer proposal. JAMB’s support FAQ also advises candidates to confirm that the institution has formally recommended the admission. Only the school can tell you what has happened on its side of that step.
Ask admissions a specific question
Use this message as a starting point:
“My institution portal shows an offer for [programme/session], but CAPS shows Not Admitted. I have checked the year and registration number. Please confirm the recommendation status and whether any result or transfer action is outstanding.”
Attach a dated status screenshot through the school’s official channel. Keep passwords, card details and payment codes out of the message. Save the reply and the name or reference of the office handling it.
Before paying or travelling
- Read the offer’s acceptance and clearance deadlines.
- Ask whether the school requires CAPS acceptance before the next payment.
- Keep a copy of any written instruction about the mismatch.
- Use official payment routes and retain receipts.
Do not buy a “CAPS upgrade” or let someone edit a PDF to make the two records appear consistent. A document that looks right is not a corrected admission record.
Does Not Admitted always mean the school withdrew the offer?
No. The message alone does not explain the cause. Resolve the discrepancy with admissions and JAMB support rather than guessing.
Which screenshot should I send?
Send the relevant status and programme details, with unnecessary personal information hidden. Include the date so the officer can compare it with the current record.
