Missed an Acceptance-Fee Deadline? How to Ask Admissions for a Decision

If you missed an acceptance-fee deadline, contact admissions before attempting a late payment. An open payment page does not necessarily mean the offer remains available.

Check the current offer status

Read the official notice and your application account. Note the deadline, any extension and the status now displayed. Separate a missed payment from a payment made on time that has not been reconciled.

If you paid before the deadline, gather the reference and receipt. That case should be described accurately as a payment-status problem rather than simply asking for a late-payment exception.

Request a specific decision

Use this message: “I received an offer for [programme/session], reference [number]. The acceptance deadline was [date]. I did not complete [step] because [brief factual explanation]. Please confirm whether the offer remains valid and whether a formal late-acceptance request is available.”

Keep the explanation concise and truthful. Attach evidence where relevant, but avoid sending private records to an unofficial contact.

Before paying

Ask for written confirmation of the approved route, amount and deadline if an exception is granted. Use the institution’s official payment channel and save the acknowledgement after completion.

Do not pay an individual to “restore” the offer or rely on a class-group message claiming everyone has been given extra time. Verify any extension against the current official instruction.

Does a late payment guarantee restoration?

No. Only the institution can decide the status of the offer under its rules. A debit alone does not establish acceptance.

Can I ask for deferral instead?

Ask whether the institution permits it for your situation and what formal approval is required. Deferral is a separate decision, not an automatic result of missing the deadline.

What if admissions does not answer immediately?

Keep your enquiry reference and use its published follow-up route. Do not assume silence means permission to proceed.
