The University of Ibadan (UI) is Nigeria’s first university and consistently ranks as one of the best in the country. Why UI Is Highly Competitive

UI receives far more qualified applications than it has spaces. O’Level Requirements for UI

UI Post-UTME

UI conducts a highly competitive Post-UTME screening. In past years this has included both a written aptitude test and O’Level document screening. The Post-UTME score is factored into the overall ranking alongside your JAMB score. Candidates who perform poorly in Post-UTME can lose their place to lower-JAMB-scoring candidates who aced the screening — so take it seriously.

Post-UTME registration is done through UI’s official portal. The window opens shortly after UTME results, usually for two to three weeks. Monitor ui.edu.ng actively immediately after your JAMB result drops.

Direct Entry to UI

UI admits Direct Entry candidates with A’Level passes (minimum of two passes in relevant subjects), OND at Upper Credit, HND, or first degree for certain postgraduate-track programmes. The O’Level credit requirements still apply. DE candidates enter at 200 level if accepted.

Tips for a Competitive Application

If your JAMB score is around 200–220, go for programmes where that score is genuinely competitive rather than stretching for Medicine or Law. UI’s less-heralded programmes — History, Religious Studies, Adult Education, Library Science — are sometimes undersubscribed and admit candidates with lower JAMB scores.
