RSUST Admission Requirements 2026/2027

Rivers State University (RSU), formally known as Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), is the main state university in Rivers State and one of the more prominent institutions in the South South. Concentrated on STEM and professionally-oriented programmes, it’s a credible option for candidates in and around Port Harcourt. Here’s what you need for 2026/2027.

About RSU

RSU has a technology orientation, so the bulk of its programmes are in Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Management Sciences, and Health Sciences. The university is well-positioned for the oil and gas industry given its location in Rivers State — Engineering and related programmes have strong industry linkages with companies operating in the Niger Delta.

O’Level Requirements for RSU

RSU requires five credit passes in O’Level subjects relevant to your programme, including English Language. Accepted results: WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB. Two sittings are allowed. The specific subjects required beyond English vary by course — Engineering students need credits in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; Science students need relevant science subjects; Management Science students need Mathematics and Economics.

RSU JAMB Cutoff 2026

RSU’s general JAMB cutoff sits around 160, typical for a state university. As with most schools, competitive departments like Engineering, Medicine, and Architecture set their own internal cutoffs higher. Check RSU’s official admissions portal (ust.edu.ng) for the current departmental figures once they’re published for the 2026 cycle.

RSU Post-UTME

RSU conducts a Post-UTME screening for all candidates who chose the university as first or second choice. The exercise is typically a CBT aptitude test conducted on campus. Registration opens through RSU’s portal (ust.edu.ng) shortly after UTME results are announced — the window is usually two to three weeks, so check the site as soon as your JAMB result drops. Candidates who don’t register for Post-UTME are generally not considered for admission regardless of their JAMB score.

Direct Entry at RSU

RSU admits Direct Entry candidates through JAMB’s DE registration. Qualifying credentials include OND at Upper Credit, NCE, HND, or A’Level passes in relevant subjects. All DE candidates must still meet the O’Level credit requirements and are admitted at 200 level pending successful screening.

How to Apply

All admissions go through JAMB CAPS. Choose RSU as first or second choice during UTME registration. After results, attend Post-UTME when invited. When an offer appears on CAPS, accept it promptly — don’t assume you have unlimited time. Follow up with RSU’s clearance process on campus, bringing original documents, a medical fitness certificate, and your acceptance fee payment evidence.

Why Consider RSU?

For candidates from Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta region, RSU is a natural first consideration for STEM programmes. Its Engineering and Science faculties have benefited from proximity to the oil industry — some departments have received equipment donations and maintain informal industry relationships that benefit students through internships and early career opportunities. For a state university, the technical infrastructure is reasonable. If you’re targeting an Engineering or technology career in the South South, RSU belongs on your shortlist.
