FUTA Admission Requirements 2026/2027 | Federal University of Technology Akure

FUTA Admission Requirements 2026/2027

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is one of Nigeria’s specialized federal universities of technology, focusing on applied sciences, engineering, and technology-related disciplines. It’s a solid choice for candidates whose career interests align with tech, engineering, agriculture, and the natural sciences. Here’s what you need for 2026/2027 admission.

About FUTA

FUTA was established in 1981 in Akure, Ondo State, as part of Nigeria’s drive to develop universities focused on technology and applied sciences. Unlike general universities, FUTA’s programmes are specifically oriented toward science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This focus shows in its curriculum, its facilities, and the industries that recruit its graduates. The university serves students primarily from the South-West and South-South geopolitical zones but accepts students from across Nigeria.

Registration is done through the FUTA admissions portal (futa.edu.ng) — the portal opens after JAMB releases results, usually August–September. Check the portal regularly and register as soon as it opens, as screening windows close quickly. Your JAMB and Post-UTME scores are combined into an aggregate for admission ranking.

Direct Entry at FUTA

FUTA accepts DE candidates with A’Level results in relevant subjects (minimum two passes), ND Lower Credit, or HND. O’Level requirements still apply in full. Apply through JAMB’s DE portal then register for FUTA’s own screening.

Why Choose FUTA?

FUTA is worth serious consideration if your career path is in engineering, technology, or applied sciences. Because it is a specialist institution, its curriculum and faculty are deeply focused on these areas — you get more specialized training than you would at a general federal university where engineering competes for resources with law, medicine, arts, and social sciences. Akure is a manageable city with good living conditions. FUTA graduates are well-regarded in engineering and tech circles, and the university has partnerships with industry players in the Niger Delta oil sector and Southwest construction and manufacturing industries.
