The university’s Provisional Council was formally inaugurated on 8th June 1961, under the Chairmanship of Chief Rotimi Williams. Subsequently, the Government of the Western State promulgated an Edict known as the University of Ife Edict 1970 to replace the Provisional Council Law of 8th June 1961. The institution has since amended this Edict as the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (Amended) Edict No. 112 of 1975 (Transitional Provisions) Decree No.

University of Ibadan University Tuition Fees
The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has announced adjustments to the Tuition fees students pay for the forthcoming academic year.
The New Tuition fees were considered and approved at an emergency meeting of the University Senate held on Tuesday, 12th September 2023.
The new fee structure for the various Faculties is as follows:
