When the course on JAMB CAPS changes, compare the exact programme with the school’s offer before accepting it. A similar name can describe a different qualification, department or professional route.
Read the programme name in full
Write down the institution, faculty if shown, programme and admission session. Compare them with the school’s admission portal. For example, Biology Education and Biology should not be treated as interchangeable just because both include the word Biology.
Check whether a transfer proposal is waiting for your decision. JAMB’s published CAPS material explains that candidates accept or reject a proposed movement between programmes. Read that proposal separately from any eventual admission offer.
Questions to answer before you decide
- Do you meet the new programme’s O’Level and entry requirements?
- Is the qualification the one you want to study?
- What are the programme’s current fees and duration?
- Does the university confirm that it is the offer intended for you?
- If it is a regulated profession, have you checked the relevant approval information?
Do not assume that accepting one programme creates a right to transfer later. An internal transfer is a separate process with conditions and available spaces.
If the two portals disagree
Send admissions a clear comparison: “School portal: [course]. CAPS: [course]. Transfer decision: [status]. Which record should be corrected before I proceed?” Request a written response and keep it with your admission documents.
Do not edit a downloaded admission letter yourself. The underlying record needs to be correct before you print documents for clearance.
Should I reject immediately if the course is different?
Pause long enough to understand the offer and the deadline. Acceptance and rejection have consequences; get clarification before pressing either button.
Is a new course automatically easier to enter?
No. Eligibility and available places still matter. Verify the specific programme instead of relying on a general label such as “less competitive.”
