Part-time graduates should check the NYSC route that applies to their actual programme rather than assuming they must attend orientation camp. NYSC’s official FAQ says part-time graduates register when the portal opens to obtain an exclusion letter through their dashboard.
Confirm your programme record
Ask your institution’s student affairs office how your mode of study and graduation details were recorded. Use the same matriculation number and identity details as the official school record.
An exclusion letter should not be confused with a certificate of national service or a certificate of exemption. If an employer asks for an “NYSC document,” clarify which document it requires for your own circumstances.
Prepare before the registration window
- Keep a functional email account you control.
- Gather the relevant school and identity records.
- Read the current NYSC registration instructions.
- Check any issue in the institutional record early.
- Record the official support route for unresolved problems.
Do not assume that dates from a previous batch remain current. Follow the notice for the window in which you are registering.
Check the final letter
When the document becomes available through the official process, inspect the name and other identifying details. Save a clear digital copy and print a readable copy if required. If anything is wrong, ask the responsible office about correction before using it for verification.
Can I buy an exclusion letter without the official process?
Do not use a document produced by an unofficial seller. Verify the route through NYSC and your institution.
Does every non-full-time programme have the same treatment?
Ask NYSC and student affairs about your exact programme and record. A casual description of how classes were scheduled does not establish the official mode-of-study classification.
Can I submit a screenshot to an employer?
Ask what form of the official document and verification the employer requires. A dashboard image may not meet its document standard.
