EBSU Admission Requirements 2026/2027 | Ebonyi State University

EBSU Admission Requirements 2026/2027

Ebonyi State University (EBSU) is one of the key state universities in the South East, offering a wide range of undergraduate programmes across multiple faculties. If you’re targeting EBSU for the 2026/2027 academic session, here’s what you need to know about their admission requirements.

General O’Level Requirements for EBSU

For most courses at EBSU, you need a minimum of five credit passes in relevant subjects at O’Level (WAEC, NECO, or GCE), including English Language. The specific subjects required beyond English depend on the faculty and course you’re applying for. Two sittings are generally accepted, provided the combined results give you the required credits.

EBSU JAMB Subject Combination

Your UTME subject combination must align with the course you’re applying for. EBSU, like all Nigerian universities, requires that your JAMB subjects match the faculty requirements. The general principle: pick Use of English (compulsory) plus three subjects that are directly relevant to your chosen course. Wrong JAMB subjects can disqualify your application even if your grades are strong.

EBSU Minimum JAMB Score

EBSU typically sets its JAMB cutoff in line with JAMB’s minimum threshold for state universities, which has been 140 in recent sessions. However, competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering often require scores well above this minimum — some departments expect 200 and above. Always check the current departmental cutoff rather than assuming the general minimum applies to your course.

Course-Specific Requirements

Medicine and Surgery (MBBS): Credits in English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. JAMB subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. This is one of the most competitive programmes at EBSU.

Law (LLB): Credits in English, Literature-in-English, Government or History, Economics, and one other social science or arts subject. JAMB subjects: English Literature, Government, and one other arts subject.

Engineering courses: Credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one other science or technical subject. JAMB subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

Education courses: Credits in English, Mathematics, and three other subjects relevant to your teaching subjects. Requirements vary by specific subject combination.

Social Sciences (Economics, Accounting, Business Admin, etc.): Credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, and two other commercial or social science subjects. JAMB subjects: Mathematics, Economics, one commerce/business subject.

EBSU Post-UTME

EBSU conducts a Post-UTME screening for candidates who chose the university as first or second choice on JAMB. The Post-UTME typically involves an aptitude test or an O’Level screening exercise. Dates and registration details are announced on the EBSU official website (ebsu.edu.ng) and through JAMB notices. Candidates who score below the Post-UTME cutoff may not receive admission even with a strong JAMB score.

Direct Entry Requirements

For Direct Entry (DE) admission, EBSU accepts candidates with: an OND (Upper Credit or better), NCE, HND, or two A’Level passes in relevant subjects, in addition to the standard O’Level requirements. DE candidates bypass 100 level and enter at 200 level, but must still satisfy the department’s O’Level credit requirements.

How to Apply

All applications go through JAMB’s CAPS platform. After the UTME, log in to JAMB CAPS, accept or reject your admission offer when it’s made, then proceed to EBSU’s clearance and registration process on campus. Keep checking both the EBSU website and JAMB CAPS regularly during the admission season — offers can come at any time between July and December.

Final Tips

EBSU is a good choice if you want a South East state university with decent facilities and a variety of programmes. Your best move right now is to confirm the exact cutoff for your specific course through the EBSU admissions office or official portal, and make sure your JAMB score, O’Level grades, and subject combinations all line up before the deadline.
