UTME 2026 Exam Date: Official Schedule

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officially announced the 2026 UTME exam dates during its policy meeting held in January 2026. The main examination window runs from Thursday, April 16 to Saturday, April 25, 2026. Before the main exam, a mock UTME was scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, giving candidates a preview of the CBT experience.

Here is a quick summary of the key 2026 UTME dates:

  • Registration Period: January 26 – February 18, 2026
  • Mock UTME: March 28, 2026
  • Main UTME Examination: April 16 – April 25, 2026
  • Direct Entry (DE) Registration: March 2 – April 25, 2026

How Many Candidates Are Sitting the UTME 2026?

According to JAMB’s official statistics, a total of 2,243,816 candidates successfully registered for the 2026 UTME. This figure represents a significant number of young Nigerians competing for available spaces in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. The large number of candidates underscores why adequate preparation for the UTME 2026 exam is absolutely essential.

Where Will the UTME 2026 Be Written?

The 2026 UTME will be written at JAMB-accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Each registered candidate has been assigned to a specific CBT centre based on their preferred location during registration. You will receive your exam town and centre details through the JAMB portal and your examination slip.

To confirm your exam centre and town, log into the JAMB eFacility portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng and check your examination slip. JAMB noted that candidates will be notified of their exam town through their registered email and phone number before the examination date.

What to Bring on UTME 2026 Exam Day

Being well-prepared for exam day means more than just studying your JAMB subjects. Here is a checklist of what every UTME 2026 candidate must bring to the CBT centre:

  • JAMB Examination Slip: Print your slip from the JAMB portal. Without this, you may not be allowed into the examination hall.
  • Valid Means of Identification: Bring your National Identity Card (NIN slip), International Passport, Voter’s Card, or Driver’s Licence.
  • HB Pencil (optional): Some centres provide this, but it is advisable to bring your own.
  • 2 Passport Photographs: Some centres require additional passport photos for identification purposes.

Important: Do NOT bring mobile phones, smartwatches, or any electronic device into the examination hall. These are strictly prohibited and may result in cancellation of your results.

What to Expect at the UTME 2026 CBT Centre

For first-time UTME candidates, understanding what happens at the CBT centre helps reduce anxiety. Here is what you should expect:

1. Biometric Verification

Before you are allowed to take the examination, you must undergo biometric verification. This includes fingerprint scanning and facial recognition to confirm your identity. If you encounter any issues with this process, alert the supervisors immediately. Read our guide on what to do when JAMB biometric verification fails to be prepared.

2. Examination Format

The UTME consists of 180 questions covering 4 subjects: Use of English (compulsory for all) and 3 other subjects based on your chosen course. You will have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the test. Each question is objective (multiple-choice), and there is no negative marking.

3. The Novel Section (Use of English)

A portion of the Use of English section for 2026 will be drawn from the “The Lekki Headmaster” by Kabir Alabi Garba, which is the official prescribed novel for UTME 2026. Ensure you have read this novel thoroughly before your exam day.

4. When Will UTME 2026 Results Be Released?

JAMB typically releases UTME results within 24–72 hours after the exam. Given that the 2026 UTME runs from April 16–25, candidates can expect their results to begin appearing as early as late April 2026. Results are made available on the JAMB portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng.

Last-Minute UTME 2026 Preparation Tips

With the exam just days away, here are the most effective last-minute tips to help you maximize your UTME score:

1. Practice CBT on Your Phone or Computer

If you have not yet done so, use JAMB’s official CBT practice software or other trusted apps to simulate the exam environment. Check out our guide on how to practice JAMB 2026 CBT effectively.

2. Review Your JAMB Syllabus

Focus on the topics listed in the official JAMB 2026 syllabus for each of your subjects. Do not waste time studying topics outside the syllabus. Past questions are also an excellent revision tool.

3. Confirm Your Exam Details

Log into the JAMB portal to confirm your exam town, centre name, and sitting (morning or afternoon). Print your examination slip. Double-check the address of your CBT centre so you can plan your transportation to arrive at least 45 minutes early.

4. Read “The Lekki Headmaster”

This 63-page novel is the prescribed reading text for the 2026 UTME Use of English. Make sure you have read all 12 chapters and understand the plot, themes, characters, and key quotes. Questions from this novel will form part of your English score.

5. Eat Well and Rest Before the Exam

On the night before your exam, avoid staying up too late. Eat a proper meal on exam morning and get sufficient rest. A clear, alert mind performs significantly better in time-pressured examination settings.

JAMB Regulations for UTME 2026 Exam Day

JAMB has issued strict regulations to maintain the integrity of the 2026 UTME. Key rules include:

  • Candidates must arrive at the CBT centre at least 30–45 minutes before their scheduled time.
  • No mobile phones, calculators, or electronic devices are allowed in the examination hall.
  • Exam malpractice, including proxy examination or impersonation, attracts a ban from JAMB and possible criminal prosecution.
  • Candidates who arrive late may be denied entry. Do not risk it—plan to arrive early.
  • Appropriate dressing is required. Avoid clothes with embedded metal parts (e.g., heavy jewellery) to avoid delays at security checks.

What Happens After UTME 2026? The Road to Admission

  • Result Check: Check your UTME score on the JAMB portal within 24–72 hours of your exam.
  • Post-UTME Screening: Most universities will require you to sit a Post-UTME (aptitude test or screening) using your UTME score as the primary filter.

Frequently Asked Questions About UTME 2026 Exam Date

Q1: What is the UTME 2026 exam date?

The 2026 UTME main examination runs from April 16 to April 25, 2026. Candidates write on different dates within this window based on their assigned sitting. Always confirm your specific date by printing your JAMB examination slip.

Q2: When will UTME 2026 results be released?
