What is a Cut Off Mark is?

A cut off mark is the minimum score a candidate must get in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in order to be eligible for the post-UTME screening of a school. A score at or near this mark enhances the chances of a candidate’s admission into their preferred course.

LASUSTECH has a general cut off mark for all applicants, but some courses require higher scores due to competition. Knowing the required score for your course helps in planning ahead.

LASUSTECH Cut-Off Mark 2025/2026

LASUSTECH has a cut off point of 180 for the 2025/2026 academic session. As such, all those applicants who scored 180 and above in the 2025 JAMB and who applied to LASUSTECH as their institution can apply for the post-UTME screening exercise.

Departmental Cut Off Marks

Apart from the overall cut-off, there are also departmental cut off points for individual courses. These are the higher marks for competitive courses since they have fewer seats and are highly competitive. For instance, cut off points for some of the courses for the 2025/2026 academic year were:

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into LASUSTECH, candidates must:

  1. Meet the UTME Cut Off: Score at least 180 in the UTME.
  2. Choose LASUSTECH as First Choice: The institution should be the candidate’s first choice in the UTME.
  3. O’Level Requirements: Possess at least five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.
  4. Post-UTME Screening: Participate in and pass the post-UTME screening exercise conducted by the institution.

Calculating the Aggregate Score

LASUSTECH uses an aggregate scoring system to determine a candidate’s overall performance. The aggregate score is calculated by:

  1. UTME Score: Dividing the UTME score by 8.
  2. Post-UTME Score: Dividing the post-UTME score by 2.
  3. Total Aggregate: Summing the results from the above two steps.

For example, if a candidate scores 240 in UTME and 80 in post-UTME:

  • UTME: 240 ÷ 8 = 30
  • Post-UTME: 80 ÷ 2 = 40
  • Aggregate Score: 30 + 40 = 70

This aggregate score is then compared to the departmental cut-off mark to determine eligibility for admission into a specific course.

Factors Influencing Cut Off Marks

Several factors can influence the determination of cut off marks:

  1. Course Demand: Highly sought-after courses tend to have higher cut-off marks due to increased competition.
  2. Performance Trends: If a significant number of candidates score high in the UTME, the institution may raise cut-off marks to select the best.
  3. Institutional Capacity: The number of available slots in a course can affect its cut off mark. Limited slots with high demand often result in higher cut-off marks.

Changes in Cut Off Marks

It’s essential to note that cut-off marks can change annually based on the factors mentioned above. For instance, while the general cut-off mark for LASUSTECH is 180, some courses have higher departmental cut-off marks due to their competitive nature.
