JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval 2026/2027: How to Accept or Reject

Nigerian student reviewing a JAMB CAPS course transfer decision

Updated 16 October 2026. JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval appears when an institution wants to move a candidate from the original programme to another course. You must review the proposal and choose whether to accept or reject it before the admission can continue.

JAMB’s official admission policy says a candidate who accepts the transfer is moved to the new programme and must later complete the required change of programme so the admission letter can be printed. A candidate who rejects or ignores the proposal remains on the original choice and cannot be moved through that offer.

What JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval means

A transfer offer is not the same as a final admission offer. It is a request from the institution to consider you for another programme, often because you did not meet the departmental cut-off for your original course, the programme has reached its quota or your subject combination fits another course better.

The Transfer Approval page should show the institution, your original programme and the proposed programme. Read every detail before taking action.

How to check JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval 2026/2027

  1. Go to the official JAMB e-Facility portal.
  2. Sign in with the email address and password attached to your JAMB profile.
  3. Select Check Admission Status.
  4. Choose the correct examination year and enter your registration number if requested.
  5. Click Access My CAPS.
  6. Open Transfer Approval in the CAPS menu.
  7. Review the old course, proposed course and institution carefully.
  8. Choose Accept or Reject only after deciding.

On a phone, use desktop mode if the left-hand CAPS menu is hidden. Rotate the phone to landscape and avoid unofficial apps that request your login details.

Should you accept the course transfer?

Accept when you genuinely want the proposed course, understand its career path and are willing to study it at the named institution. Before accepting, check the course accreditation, duration, tuition, professional requirements and whether your O’Level and JAMB subjects meet the programme requirements.

Do not accept merely because you are afraid the page will disappear. A course affects several years of study and your professional options.

Questions to ask before accepting

  • Is the proposed programme accredited by the NUC and relevant professional body?
  • Do I meet its O’Level and UTME subject requirements?
  • Can I afford the programme and institution?
  • Would I be happy to build a career in this field?
  • Does the institution allow an internal change of course later?
  • Is there still a realistic admission route for my original choice?

What happens after you accept

  1. Your acceptance is recorded on CAPS.
  2. The institution continues the recommendation and approval process for the new programme.
  3. When instructed, complete JAMB change of course or programme so your profile matches the transfer.
  4. Keep the Transaction ID and receipt for any official payment.
  5. Check CAPS again until the admission status changes to Admitted.
  6. Accept the final admission offer when it appears.
  7. Print the admission letter and confirm the new programme is correct.

JAMB’s current service schedule lists correction of institution or course at ₦2,500 plus the approved service charge. Follow the amount shown on the official portal because fees may change.

What happens if you reject the transfer?

Rejecting means you do not agree to move to the proposed programme. The institution may continue considering you for the original course, offer another route or end consideration, depending on its admission process and available quota.

JAMB’s policy guidance states that a candidate who selects No or gives no response remains on the original programme and cannot be moved through that proposal. Rejection does not guarantee admission to the original course or another institution.

Common problems and how to fix them

The Transfer Approval page is blank

A blank page usually means no transfer has been proposed. If the school told you about a transfer, check again later and confirm with its admission office that the proposal was uploaded to CAPS.

The proposed course is wrong

Do not accept first and hope to correct it later. Contact the institution’s admission office for clarification. Use JAMB Support if the school confirms a different proposal from what CAPS displays.

You accepted but the status still says Not Admitted

Acceptance of transfer is only one stage. Confirm that your O’Level result is uploaded, the institution has recommended you and JAMB has approved the admission. Follow our guide on uploading O’Level results to JAMB CAPS.

You accepted but cannot print the admission letter

Check whether JAMB instructed you to complete a change of programme and whether the final admission offer has been accepted. Once the records match, use our JAMB admission letter printing guide.

CAPS does not load correctly on a phone

Use a current browser, enable desktop site and try a stable connection. Clear the browser cache or use a computer at an accredited CBT centre if the menu remains inaccessible.

You clicked the wrong option

Do not make more changes through an agent. Contact the institution and submit a ticket through JAMB Support immediately with your registration number and evidence of the error.

Transfer Approval versus change of course

Transfer Approval is the institution’s proposal on CAPS. Change of course is the JAMB data-modification service used to make your registered programme match the accepted transfer. Accepting the proposal does not always complete the paid change-of-course step automatically.

Safety tips

  • Use only JAMB e-Facility and CAPS.
  • Never share your password or one-time payment code.
  • Take a screenshot of the proposed course before responding.
  • Keep receipts and Transaction IDs.
  • Verify accreditation and course requirements.
  • Do not pay anyone to create a fake transfer offer.

Frequently asked questions

Is it compulsory to accept a transfer offer?

No. You may reject it, but you should understand that rejection does not secure the original course. Ask the institution about your options before deciding.

Is Transfer Approval free?

Checking and accepting or rejecting an approval on CAPS is an online admission action. A later change-of-course service may carry the official JAMB fee displayed in e-Facility.

How long after acceptance will admission appear?

There is no fixed time. The institution and JAMB must complete their approval stages. Check CAPS regularly and follow up if the school’s announced admission batches have closed.

Can I accept a transfer and later reject the final admission?

The final admission page still requires a decision, but changing your mind can leave you without another offer. Confirm the course before accepting the transfer.

Does transfer approval mean I have been admitted?

Not yet. It means the institution is proposing a different programme. Final admission must still be recommended, approved and accepted on CAPS.

Final checklist

  • Check the institution and proposed programme.
  • Verify requirements, accreditation, fees and career fit.
  • Take a screenshot before responding.
  • Accept or reject only from your own CAPS profile.
  • Complete change of programme if JAMB instructs you.
  • Wait for and accept the final admission offer.
  • Print the admission letter and verify every detail.

Note: Admission procedures and fees can change. Follow the instructions displayed on the official JAMB portal and confirm institution-specific issues with the admission office.
