FUPRE Launches New B.Sc. Programmes for Science and Non-Science Students

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) – Africa’s top petroleum institution  has launched a new set of undergraduate programs designed to meet the needs of both non-science and science students. This innovative academic expansion offers new opportunities for students to access top-quality education and secure employment within Nigeria’s energy, oil, and gas industries — and beyond.

With the recent approval of these B.Sc. programs, FUPRE aims to strengthen its position as a center for innovative research, hands-on learning, and education aligned with industry. If you’re interested in pursuing scientific discoveries or strategic direction, FUPRE now has a location for you.

New Programmes in the College of Petroleum Administration and Management

Empowering the Next Generation of Non-Science Energy Leaders

Are you not from a background in science? It’s not a problem. FUPRE is expanding its course offerings with four brand-new Bachelor of Science programs under the College of Petroleum Administration and Management, specifically designed for non-science students who wish to develop and manage the global energy market.

Newly Introduced Programmes:

  • B.Sc. Entrepreneurship
  • B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • B.Sc. Petroleum Information Management
  • B.Sc. Procurement Management

In collaboration with industry professionals, the programs combine core business principles with petroleum-related concepts. From logistics optimization to energy data management, students will graduate equipped with the skills to thrive in energy-driven business environments — without needing to wear a lab coat.

New Programmes in the College of Science

For Students Passionate About Scientific Discovery and Innovation

Students of science, FUPRE hasn’t forgotten you. The university has also launched three additional B.Sc. programs within the College of Science — ideal for those who wish to explore the scientific foundations of industries such as healthcare, petroleum, and the environment.

Newly Introduced Programmes:

  • B.Sc. Biochemistry
  • B.Sc. Microbiology
  • B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry

These courses offer a blend of theory, lab-based experimentation, and real-world problem-solving–preparing students to contribute to both academia and industry. The topics covered include:

  • Genetic engineering and Molecular Biology
  • Industrial Microbiology
  • Analyzing the chemical composition of oil products
  • Public Health and environmental Biochemistry

FUPRE’s science program includes the practical aspects of science through lab work as well as work experience in the industry to ensure that graduates have the skills to be employed from the beginning.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to any of the next B.Sc. programs, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

Basic Entry Requirements:

  • A minimum of five credits in the relevant subject (O’Level: WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), which includes English Language and Mathematics.
  • Affordable, appropriate UTME subject combinations as described below.
  • A-Levels, ND (or equivalent) qualifications required for Direct Entry applicants.

College of Science – Entry Requirements

B.Sc. Biochemistry / Microbiology

  • O’Level: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • UTME Subjects: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • Direct Entry A-Level passes to Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.

B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry

  • O’Level: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics + one additional science subject
  • UTME Subjects: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics
  • Direct Entry A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics

College of Petroleum Administration & Management – Entry Requirements

B.Sc. Petroleum Information Management

  • O’Level: English, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Accounting
  • UTME Subjects: English, Mathematics, Economics, Geography or Accounting
  • Direct Entry: A-Level in Management, Economics, or Accounting

B.Sc. Entrepreneurship

  • O’Level: English, Mathematics Geography, Economics, Geography and another subject
  • UTME Subjects: English, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics or Statistics

B.Sc. Logistics & Supply Chain Management / Procurement Management

  • O’Level: English, Mathematics Geography, Economics, Geography and one additional subject
  • UTME Subjects: English, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting
  • Direct Entry: A-Level in Management, Economics, or Accounting
