The Federal Government has announced significant changes in the leadership of several federal universities in Nigeria. These adjustments aim to enhance governance, transparency, and accountability within the nation’s higher education institutions.
University of Abuja (Now Yakubu Gowon University):
- The entire Governing Council, both external and internal members, has been dissolved.
- Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor, transitioning from his previous role at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
- Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term. She is not eligible to apply for the permanent Vice-Chancellor position.
- Professor Maikudi has been removed from his position as Vice-Chancellor.
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN):
- Engineer Akin Ojo has been reassigned as the Pro-Chancellor of UNN, moving from his former position at the Federal University of Lokoja.
- General Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned from UNN to serve as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo.
- Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month period and is not eligible for the permanent role.
- The tenure of the current Acting Vice-Chancellor, which ends on February 14, 2025, will not be renewed.
Other Appointments:
- Senator Sani Stores has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education.
- Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
- Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja.
