How to Register for ABU Post-UTME 2026: Step-by-Step

When ABU opens the post-UTME application portal, eligible candidates must complete registration online. The process has remained consistent across recent years and involves five key steps.

Step 1: Monitor the ABU Admissions Portal

Visit the official ABU admissions portal at abu.edu.ng and the ABU Admission Office social media pages. Do not rely on third-party agents or social media rumours for the opening date. Set a daily reminder to check the official portal from May 2026 onwards.

Step 2: Obtain Your Payment Invoice

Once the portal opens, log in using your JAMB registration number and generate a payment invoice. The post-UTME application fee is typically between ₦2,000 and ₦3,500. Pay through any accredited bank, Remita platform, or online banking channel as specified. Keep your payment receipt—you will need it to complete registration.

Step 3: Complete the Online Application Form

Log back into the portal with your JAMB registration number and payment reference. Fill in your personal details, O’Level results, preferred course, and upload a passport photograph (white background, taken within three months, JPEG format, maximum 200KB). Double-check all entries before submission—errors in name spelling or course selection are very difficult to correct after submission closes.

Step 4: Print Your Examination Slip

After successful form submission, download and print your post-UTME examination slip. This slip contains your unique examination number, assigned CBT centre, exam date, and reporting time. Print at least two copies and store them in separate places to avoid a last-minute scramble if one copy is misplaced.

Step 5: Sit the Post-UTME CBT Examination

Arrive at your designated CBT centre at least 45 minutes before your scheduled time with your examination slip and a valid photo ID (JAMB examination card, National ID, international passport, or driver’s licence). The examination is 100 questions in 60 minutes, Computer-Based. No phones or electronic devices are permitted in the examination hall.

ABU Aggregate Score Formula

ABU Zaria computes each candidate’s admission aggregate using the following formula: Aggregate = (JAMB Score ÷ 8) + Post-UTME Score. The JAMB component contributes a maximum of 50 points (400 ÷ 8 = 50), and the post-UTME component contributes a maximum of 100 points, giving a theoretical maximum aggregate of 150. In practice, the top candidates score between 110 and 130.

How to Prepare for ABU Zaria Post-UTME 2026

Scoring 65 and above on the ABU post-UTME gives most candidates a competitive aggregate for their chosen course. The following strategies are drawn from the experiences of successful ABU students.

1. Source ABU Past Questions

ABU post-UTME past questions (2015–2025) are commercially available in Zaria bookshops and from several reputable online platforms. Work through at least five complete years of past questions under timed conditions. Pay particular attention to Use of English—comprehension, idioms, and antonyms—which appears across all faculties and accounts for a significant share of the 100 questions.

2. Focus on High-Yield Topics

For Science and Engineering candidates: organic chemistry (reaction mechanisms, naming), electromagnetic induction, and differentiation/integration in Mathematics are perennial favourites. For Arts and Social Science candidates: post-independence Nigerian political history, the 1999 Constitution, and demand-supply curves in Economics recur regularly. Build a topic priority list based on frequency in past questions.

3. Practise on a Computer

The exam is CBT. Candidates who have never used a CBT platform before often lose 10–15 minutes navigating the interface. Visit an accredited CBT centre in Zaria or your home city at least twice before your exam date. Practise flagging questions to return to them—the ABU CBT platform allows candidates to mark questions and review them before time expires.

4. Study in 60-Minute Sprints

The exam allocates 36 seconds per question. Train your brain to work at this pace by setting a 60-minute timer and attempting 100 questions without stopping. Many candidates who know the answers still run out of time because they have not conditioned themselves to work fast. Speed and accuracy together—not accuracy alone—determine your post-UTME score.

5. Travel to Zaria Early

ABU’s campuses are spread across Samaru (main campus), Kongo, and Ahmadu Bello Way. Exam centres can be assigned to any of these locations. If you are travelling from outside Kaduna State, arrive the night before. Transport delays on exam morning have cost candidates their chance at ABU admission—do not gamble with logistics.

Documents Required for ABU Clearance

Successful candidates offered admission by ABU Zaria must present these documents during the clearance and matriculation process. Prepare originals and photocopies well in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions — ABU Zaria Post-UTME 2026

What is the minimum JAMB score for ABU Zaria post-UTME?

ABU sets a general minimum JAMB cut-off of 180. However, candidates applying to high-demand courses such as Medicine, Law, and Engineering should score a minimum of 240–280 to realistically appear on the post-UTME shortlist. A JAMB score of 200 is considered competitive for most Arts, Social Science, and Education courses.

How many questions are on the ABU post-UTME?

The ABU post-UTME consists of 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 60 minutes. The questions are drawn from four subjects: Use of English (compulsory for all candidates) and three subjects relevant to your course of study. Each correct answer scores 1 mark; there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

Does ABU accept candidates who did not choose it as first choice?

No—candidates who did not list ABU as their first-choice institution on JAMB are not eligible for the standard post-UTME screening. However, candidates who listed ABU as second choice and their first-choice institution does not offer them admission can apply during the JAMB change-of-institution exercise. Alternatively, ABU may consider such candidates in the supplementary admissions exercise at the end of the JAMB cycle.

When will ABU post-UTME 2026 form be on sale?

ABU has not published the 2026 form sale date as of April 2026. Based on previous years, forms typically go on sale between June and July, approximately 4–6 weeks after JAMB publishes its merit list. We will update this article immediately ABU makes the official announcement. For real-time updates, follow the JAMB news section on universities.ng.

What score do I need to pass ABU post-UTME?

ABU does not publish a single universal pass mark. Each faculty sets its own departmental cut-off based on aggregate scores. Historically, scoring 50 and above (out of 100) on the post-UTME places you above the median for most departments. For Medicine, Dentistry, and Law, aim for 65–70 or above. The final admission decision is based on your combined aggregate—your post-UTME score alone is not the deciding factor.

Can I change my course after registering for post-UTME?

Course changes after post-UTME registration are generally not permitted. ABU’s post-UTME questions are course-specific in some faculties, and your examination paper is assigned based on your registered course. If you genuinely need to change courses, visit the ABU Admissions Office in person before the registration deadline and request guidance on the correct procedure.
