Seven-Day Exam Revision Plan: How to Prioritise When Time Is Short

A seven-day exam revision plan helps you prioritise; it cannot guarantee mastery of a whole semester in a week. Start by finding the biggest gaps and the assessment tasks you must be able to perform.

Day 1: diagnose and choose

Review the current course outline and attempt a short mixed set without notes. List topics as secure, uncertain or unfamiliar. Prioritise important unfamiliar and uncertain areas while keeping some practice for the rest.

Days 2–4: repair the gaps

Give each main session a specific outcome: explain one process, solve a question type or compare two concepts. Review the method, practise independently and record errors. Ask for help on the exact step you cannot explain.

Do not spend these days rewriting every note into a prettier format. Produce something that tests whether you can answer a question.

Days 5–6: practise the paper

Use legitimate practice questions under realistic time and choice rules. Mark the work, identify recurring mistakes and revisit them. If several exams are close together, protect a short daily slot for the next paper rather than abandoning it entirely.

Day 7: consolidate and prepare

Review your error log, key relationships and examination instructions. Check the venue, timetable, permitted materials and transport plan. Keep the final evening manageable so you can arrive prepared to work.

What if I am still behind?

Choose the next most useful task rather than trying to do everything at once. Ask your lecturer which learning outcomes define the course; do not ask for a prediction of the paper.

Should I study all night?

Build a plan that includes adequate rest and practical preparation. Exhaustion can make an already difficult week harder to manage.

How do I adapt the plan for calculation courses?

Replace vague reading blocks with problem sets, explanation of methods and timed practice. Track the mistakes you make, not just the chapters opened.
