If your NELFUND request shows approval but you cannot see a payment, check which payment you are expecting. Institutional charges and upkeep do not go to the same destination.
NELFUND’s official information says institutional charges are paid to the institution, while upkeep is paid to the student’s supplied bank account after successful verification. A bank account alone therefore cannot tell you whether the school has received a fee payment.
Check each record separately
- Read the application status and the loan components requested.
- Check for a disbursement reference or date in the account.
- Ask the bursary to check your student ledger for institutional payment.
- Check the relevant bank account for upkeep, if that component applies.
- Note exactly which component remains unresolved.
Avoid changing account details while a payment is being traced unless official support instructs you to do so. Retain the original transaction history.
Write a precise support request
“My application [reference] displays [status]. I am enquiring about [institutional charges/upkeep]. The portal shows [date/reference or none], while [school ledger/bank record] shows [position]. Please confirm the next verification step.”
This is easier to investigate than “my loan has not come.” Use the official support route and give your school the information it needs for its own ledger check.
Does approval give a guaranteed payment date?
Do not infer a fixed date unless the official account or support response supplies one. Processing and reconciliation are separate from the label you first see.
Should I pay school fees again?
Ask the bursary to reconcile the record first and obtain written guidance about the deadline. If you make a separate payment, keep both references for any later reconciliation.
