Understanding O-Level subject requirements is one of the most important steps in the JAMB 2026 admission process. Many candidates lose admission every year, not because of low JAMB scores, but because their O-Level subjects do not match their chosen course.

General O-Level Requirement for University Admission

For admission into Nigerian universities through Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, candidates must have:

  • At least five O-Level credit passes
  • Credits must include English Language
  • Credits must be from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB
  • Results must be from not more than two sittings (subject to course and school rules)

These subjects are commonly required across many courses:

  • English Language – compulsory for all courses
  • Mathematics – compulsory for most science, social science, and management courses
  • Relevant subjects related to the course

Without English Language, no university admission is possible.
