Ahmadu Bello University was Established on October 4, 1962; the University was initially named the University of Northern Nigeria. The institution operates across three main campuses in Nigeria: Samaru and Kongo in Zaria and the School of Basic Studies in Funtua.
The Samaru campus has various academic departments, including administrative offices, sciences, social sciences, arts and languages, education, environmental design, interior design, engineering, medical sciences, agricultural sciences, and research facilities.
On the other hand, the Kongo campus accommodates the Faculties of Law and Administration. Within the Faculty of Administration are specialized departments such as Accounting, Business Administration, Local Government and Development Studies, and Public Administration.

Beyond its campuses, Ahmadu Bello University oversees various other institutions and programs at different locations. The university’s name pays homage to the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, who served as the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
