UNICAL Postgraduate Admission Requirements
Application Details
When filling out forms, please remember to enter your surname first, followed by your first name, and then your middle name. It is important to note that any changes to the application forms after online submission are not allowed without payment of a fee.
Additionally, when addressing yourself in the application, please use appropriate titles such as Mr., Miss, or Mrs. Finally, the available programs include Ph.D., M.A., M.Ed., M.Sc., M.P.H., L.L.M., and P.G.D.
Eligibility Criteria
- Postgraduate Diploma (P.G.D.): A minimum CGPA of 1.25 on a 5-point scale.
- Master’s Programmes: A minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale.
- Ph.D. Programs: A minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale.

How to Apply for UNICAL Postgraduate Admission
Application Process
- Pay a non-refundable fee of ₦35,000.00 at any bank using the E-Transact platform for the Postgraduate School application form for the 2023/2024 session.
- Obtain a printout with a unique P.I.N. at the bank.
- Enter the unique P.I.N. and mobile number on the UNICAL Admissions Portal to access the application form.
- Complete the form by following the provided instructions.
- Print a copy of the completed form and concept note by clicking the print button after submission.
- Bring a printed copy of the form to the screening venue.
E-Scratch Card Process
- To apply for the Postgraduate School at UNICAL, you can visit any bank nationwide and pay on the E-Transact platform to purchase the application form.
- The application fee is ₦35,000.00. After making the payment, you will receive a payment slip.
- You can then log on to the UNICAL Admissions Portal and use the P.I.N. from the payment slip to fill out the application form.
Concept Note Submission
Candidates must submit a concept note as part of their application:
- Ph.D. Programmes: Maximum of two pages.
- Master’s Programmes: Maximum of one page.
The concept note, typed online, summarises the research proposal and should include:
- Statement of the problem
- Relevance of study to society
- Study aims
- Justification
- Methodology
- Theoretical background
Failure to include the concept note and your application will lead to disqualification from the oral interview. It is crucial to ensure that your concept note is submitted together with your application to avoid any issues with the selection process.
Transcripts
The academic transcripts must be sent directly from your previous institutions to the Academic Secretary at the College of Postgraduate Studies, University of Calabar, P.M.B. 1115, Calabar, Cross River State, using a reputable courier service. - Deadline for Transcripts: The College of Postgraduate Studies must receive the transcripts by the screening day.
- Applications without transcripts will not be considered.

Admission Screening
The screening process includes:
- Part A: Computer-based test covering English, Logic, Mathematics, I.C.T., and General Knowledge.
- Part B: Oral interview based on subject area and concept note for Ph.D. and Master’s candidates.
- There is no oral interview for M.B.A., MPAS, and P.G.D. programs.
- A mock examination for computer fluency is required.
