UNIBEN cut off mark for mass communication

The University of Benin, well-known in Nigeria, attracts several students annually. Among the highly demanded courses at UNIBEN is Mass Communication. For admission into the program, there is a need to know the cut off marks for admission. Understanding UNIBEN Cut Off Marks

A cut off mark is an agreed grade a candidate should have in the UTME to be qualified for admission for a particular course or institution. This is to ensure that only qualified candidates with some certain good scores are offered such admission.

UNIBEN General UTME Cut Off Mark

The general UTME cut off mark at UNIBEN for the 2025/2026 academic session is 200. This means that only candidates who score 200 and above in UTME will be qualified to apply for the Post-UTME screening exercise.

Departmental Cut Off Mark for Mass Communication

While the general cut off mark for Utme is 200, some courses are considered competitive and always require above the general cut off. One such course is Mass Communication. Over the years, the cut off mark for Mass Communication in UNIBEN has always been above the general cut off mark of the University. In the previous admission year, the cut off mark for Mass Communication at UNIBEN was put at 210.
However, such cut off marks change annually with variables such as the number of applicants and their performance.

Post-UTME Screening

Applicants who made the cut off mark in UTME must undertake a post-UTME screening exercise conducted by UNIBEN. This further screens the candidates for eligibility in their various programs. The Post-UTME scores are added to the UTME scores to give an aggregate score that plays a critical role in the candidate’s selection for admission.

Calculation of Aggregate Score

UNIBEN uses the following to calculate the aggregate score for admission:

  • UTME Score: Your UTME score divided by 8.
  • Post-UTME Score: Your Post-UTME score divided by 2.

Adding them gives the aggregate score. For example, a candidate scoring 240 in UTME and 60 in Post-UTME:

  • UTME: 240/8 = 30
  • Post-UTME: 60/2 = 30
  • Aggregate Score: 30 + 30 = 60

This aggregate score is then matched with the departmental cut off mark for Mass Communication to determine one’s eligibility for admission.

Mass Communication Admission Requirements

Aside from the cut off marks, candidates are also to satisfy other admission requirements:

  • O’Level Requirements: At least five credit passes in relevant subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English, and two other relevant subjects.
  • Age: Such a candidate must have attained the age of 16 years by the time of admission.
  • Choice of Institution: The candidate must have chosen UNIBEN as his first choice on UTME registration.

  • Keep Tabs: Always visit UNIBEN’s website and other reliable educational websites for any recent developments concerning admission and cut off marks.
  • Prepare Well: Make use of past questions, study guides, and, if possible, attend preparatory classes to perform well in the examinations.

Conclusion

The UNIBEN Mass Communication admission requires close attention to preparation, full acquaintance with cut off marks, and admission requirements. Therefore, a candidate aiming at a high score with the fulfillment of all specified criteria is most likely to get admitted into this prestigious program.
